What sold when (and for how much): Track property sales easily with a new app from The Lens

Property transactions are public records. When you buy or sell a house, a building or a piece of property in New Orleans, it’s recorded by The Land Records Division, part of the Office of the Clerk of Civil Court.

The Lens, a nonprofit, nonpartisan public-interest newsroom, gathered those records and compiled them in an easy-to-use site. Now, it’s really easy to keep tabs on the buyers, sellers, prices and locations of property transactions in the city.  It’s updated every night so you are sure to get the latest info.

It’s all part of The Lens’ open-data initiative called The Vault, which includes the full text of every city contract and the salary of every city employee.

The Lens would love to know how to make these services really useful to you. So please send suggestions and feedback to Abe Handler, their news technologist at ahandler@thelensnola.org.
