The Uptown Messenger reports that developers who recently presented a plan to convert a vacant Blockbuster Video at Louisiana Avenue and Magazine Street into a new CVS pharmacy are encountering resistance from neighbors. The building was originally built for Eckerd’s Drug Store, but was subdivided and currently houses a Subway sandwich shop and Green Tea Chinese Restaurant which remain open in addition to the former Blockbuster space. CVS plans to redevelop the entire building to use as a store. CVS plans to sell alcohol which will require a conditional use permit from the City Council, and is a sticking point for many of the neighbors. The proposal must be heard first by the City Planning Commission, and then by the City Council. No dates for those hearings have been set.
